How to choose a suitable math competition for children?
Children nowadays start learning mathematics from kindergarten. For children who like to solve problems, participating in various mathematics competitions can not only help them compete with their peers, but also enhance their learning enthusiasm and self-confidence through competitions. If parents want their children to improve their problem-solving skills, or want them to be more competitive in admission interviews, participating in different competitions is a good choice. In addition to the certificates that can be obtained in the competition, children can also grow through challenges and discover their potential.
Next, we will introduce some mathematics competitions suitable for Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and internationally to help parents find mathematics competitions suitable for their children.
Mathematics Competition vs Mathematical Olympiad: How to Choose?
When parents choose competitions for their children, they may come across two types of competitions: "mathematics competitions" and "mathematical Olympiads". So, what is the difference between the two? The full name of the Mathematical Olympiad is the Mathematical Olympiad, which is an extended competition specifically aimed at in-depth exploration of mathematics and problem-solving ability, and is suitable for children who want to challenge difficult problems. General mathematics competitions focus more on the application and examination of basic mathematics and are suitable for all children who like mathematics.
Parents can choose which competition to participate in based on their children's learning interests and abilities. Some children can even "jump over the level" and participate in more difficult math competitions to further test and improve their abilities.
Children's Mathematics Competitions Worth Considering by Parents
For kindergarten and primary school students in Hong Kong, there are many mathematics competitions worth participating in on the market. Some of these competitions have preparatory classes to help children become familiar with the types and patterns of questions in the competition so that they can achieve good results in the competition. Different competitions vary in difficulty, recognition, and popularity. Generally speaking, mathematics competitions with a large number of participants and a long history are more authoritative and competitive.
Parents can make a preliminary understanding of their children’s learning situation first, and then decide whether to participate in appropriate math competitions or Olympiads, so that their children can improve their confidence and gain knowledge in learning.
